Knowledge, as a valuable resource, creates opportunities for sound governance, socio-economic development, service delivery and innovation capability in Africa. The new era of knowledge management (KM) on the continent brings challenges as well as opportunities for utilizing, both traditional and contemporary, knowledge bases. What are the enabling policies, infrastructures, mechanisms and strategies for performing KM in the African context? Which techniques, methodologies, technologies and networks can add value to our KM initiatives? How can KM act a catalyst for development and innovation in Africa?
The aim of this workshop is to discuss the issues that influence the effective implementation of KM initiatives, drawing on the experiences of pioneer organizations, and on the knowledge of international and regional experts. Engaging interdisciplinary, applied and theoretical minds on best practices and lessons learnt relevant to Africa, is a major goal of the workshop. Researchers, practitioners, private and public institutions, and civil society organizations concerned with knowledge and its use are encouraged to participate.
Papers and proposals for panel discussions are particularly invited on KM applications in the following five themes: Education, Health, Environment, Business and Governance. We are also interested in ideas and success stories on KM utilization in development themes such as poverty eradication and wealth generation, gender equality and empowerment, technology transfer and innovation, small and medium enterprises, institutional development and capacity building. Contributions addressing areas potently related to KM such as organizational learning, change management, intellectual capital and ethics, are welcome. Papers/proposals on KM support for indigenous knowledge systems will receive special consideration.

Language: The official language of the workshop will be English. However, submissions in Arabic will be accepted and effort will be made to translate the content into English for general distribution.

Submissions:
Abstracts for full papers and panel discussions are being accepted and reviewed. All abstracts must be between 200 and 500 words. Please indicate if the abstract is for a paper presentation or for a panel discussion. Accepted abstracts will be included in the workshop proceedings. Full papers are limited to 8 pages. Details on paper and panel format will be distributed with notification of abstract acceptance. All abstracts, papers and proposals will be peer reviewed by the Scientific Review Committee.

Venue and Accommodation:
All conference activities will be held at a university venue or a local conference center in Khartoum Sudan. Arrangements will be made with local hotels for our participants and a small number will be hosted at the Guest House of the University of Khartoum. Transportation to/from workshop venue will be available. More details will be provided in the coming weeks on our workshop blog.
